Former Union minister V.C. Shukla has started another campaign against his rival, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Ajit Jogi.

Shukla drove to Dhamtari yesterday to support farmers sitting on a dharna on the Raipur-Dhamtari road. Amid cheers, he declared a war on the state government for farmers’ rights.

Shukla, who has formed the Chhattisgarh Sangharsh Samiti to consolidate base, asked the Jogi government to explain where crop insurance worth Rs 400 crore was spent. ‘‘The farmers have not been paid,’’ he said.

Tomorrow, he moves to Bilaspur and Raigarh districts where Jogi just finished his padyatra to mobilise the support of farmers. He will tour villages where the government had acquired land for an ambitious irrigation canal but is yet to pay compensation.
