
NAGPUR, Feb 22: The annual literary and academic awards of the Maharashtra Rajya Sindhi Sahitya Academy would be presented at a special function scheduled to be held on February 26 at Vasantrao Deshpande hall at 5 pm.
According to a press note issued by Prem Tolani, secretary of the Academy, the names of the award winners have already been announced by the Academy. For her contribution to the Sindhi literature, Pune’s Rita Sahani would be awarded while Mumbai’s Jagdish Lachhani would be honoured for his work, Sahitya ji parakh and Ramesh Janyani, also from Mumbai, would be awarded for his contribution to the Sindhi theater. They would receive Rs 10,000 in cash and mementos at the function.
Dr Manohar Matlani of Ulhasnagar would receive a cash award of Rs 7,000 for obtaining Ph.D from the Bombay University. Sulaxani Nebhani of Mumbai University would get the award for scoring highest marks in MA in Sindhi literature. Geeta Mirchandani of Chandibai College, Ulhasnagar and Jyoti Lulla of the New Era High School, Ulhasnagar, would also get the an award of Rs 5,000 each for being top scorers in Sindhi in BA and HSC, respectively.Puja Gajwani of Netaji High School, Ulhasnagar, would receive the award for getting highest marks in Sindhi in the SSC examination. She would get a cash award of Rs 4,000 and a memento. Yamanshu Kodwani of Mahatama Gandhi Centennial Sindhu High School, Nagpur, would get a cash prize of Rs 1,000 for scoring highest marks in Sindhi lower-level subject in SSC examination.
According to Issar Kalyani, chairman of the reception committee and member of the Academy, State Minister for Cultural Affairs and ex-officio vice president of the Academy Anil Deshmukh would preside over the function. PWD and Guardian Minister of Nagpur Nitin Gadkari and State Minister for Forest Vinod Gudadhe-Patil would be the chief guest at the function.
