Pradnya Munde, wife of BJP national secretary Gopinath Munde and sister of slain BJP leader Pramod Mahajan, abused her brother, accused Pravin, and his family in court today. She said the entire family had been living off Pramod Mahajan’s money.

Following her cross-examination, Pradnya insisted that she wanted to say something. When additional sessions judge S P Davare gave the nod, she lashed out at Pravin, who was sitting in the dock.

“This 45-year old ghoda (horse) is still living off Pramod. Tyachi uchali bayko ani jadi-jadi por Pramodcha paisyavar jagta aahet. (His greedy wife and his fat children are living off Pramod’s money),” she said in open court. Judge Davare and the public prosecutors, Ujwal Nikam and Niteen Pradhan, tried to calm her down, but to no avail.

“This wretched liar and shameless man. Pramod was a diamond. But this piece of coal did not realise his worth and killed him,”she said as she wept openly. She added that Pramod was defenceless when Pravin shot him. Turning towards defence lawyer Harshad Ponda, Pradnya said: “If you had seen Pramod in that state, you wouldn’t have accepted this case.”

Pradyna said Pramod had been taking care of them since he was 21 years old. Her next target was the media. “The media did not depict the goodness of Pramod. They have made a villain (Pravin) a hero,” she said.

Even during the cross-examination, Davare and the public prosecutors had a tough time trying to restrain her. Ponda asked her questions related to the incident, which she felt were irrelevant. “Why are you asking only selective questions which suit your case? Why aren’t you asking me what happened that day?” she asked him. Ponda replied that those questions will be asked by the prosecution, not defence.
