Public ads
Most ads are made for commercial interests. But some of the most effective and popular ads are those made for public interest. The Advertising Council, which is a non-profit, organisation run by volunteers excels in public service advertising.
The Ad Council is the largest public service advertiser in the US and has done memorable campaigns such as the one against forest fires. It created Smokey Bear which is recognised by a staggering 95 per cent of the US population. Its site at adcouncil.org has comprehensive information on all the campaigns done by the ad council. The other enduring characters created by the Ad Council are Vince and Larry, the famous crash test dummies.
