Situation in Nasik under control

No fresh incidents of violence were reported in Nasik a day after MNS activists went on the rampage in Shalimar Chowk.

A day after MNS activists went on the rampage targeting north Indian fruit vendors in Shalimar Chowk in Nasik, the situation was “under control” in the city on Wednesday with no fresh incidents of violence.

The city bus service of Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC), which was suspended on Tuesday the wake of the violence, was on Wednesday restored.

Seventeen MSRTC buses were damaged and at least ten persons including bus drivers were injured in stone pelting by MNS activists protesting possible arrest of MNS chief Raj Thackeray on Tuesday.

Shops and commercial establishments on MG Road, Shivaji Road Shalimar Chowk and College Road opened on Wednesday after being closed down following sporadic incidents of violence in different parts of the city on Tuesday.

Eighty-two MNS activists including two of its party corporators are detained in connection with these incidents, police added.
