Two days after his 16th birthday, P.S. Ramu Abhinav, a student of 10th standard at a private matriculation school, was found hanging from the ceiling fan in his house at Mogappair on Thursday.
He had left behind a note in which he said he was doing so because he ‘‘did not want to go to school.’’

On Wednesday, Ramu was allegedly ‘‘thrashed’’ by his maths teacher for not attending some special classes. The boy had not gone because it was his birthday and his parents had planned an outing that evening.
Ramu’s father Sarangapani has lodged a police complaint. Kannappan, the maths teacher of Velammal MHSS, has been taken into custody for questioning.
