Officers of Criminal Intelligence Unit (CIU) have arrested the managing director of a film production company, Mohammed Adil Mohammed Farooq alias Guddu, for allegedly threatening at least four Bollywood actors and coercing them to act in a film.

Farooq had reportedly told the actors that he had produced Tum. It is being suspected that Farooq is a front for the real producer though a link with the underworld has not yet been established.

Farooq, managing director of FKF Film Production, was arrested on Friday. However, police believe that Dubai-based Mohammed Kamal Rashid and his wife Ayesha were supposed to direct the film. Police say they became suspicious when Rashid, who had checked into a Juhu hotel in November last year, did not turn up at the muhurat held around the same time.

The police grew even more suspicious when the actors and some junior artistes told the police that they had received threats from Rashid, who claimed he was acting on behalf of Abu Salem. Eventually, four actors were signed on for the film after being paid Rs 1 lakh each as the signing amount.

According to JCP (Crime) Shridhar Vagal, Saif, Aftab Shivdasani and Jackie Shroff had also received threats.
