SANGLI, Feb 22: Employees of the Sangli-Miraj-Kupwad Corporation are in a state of tizzy. Their immediate predicament is the surprise checks being conducted by Mayor Shaila Navlai.

On and off the mayor has been storming into various departments, only to the find staffers missing from their seats. The mayor noticed that 90 per cent of the workers and officers were absent during working period. After making remarks on the register, the mayor has issued show cause notice to these workers.

“Only two percent of workers are sincere in there work. But 98 per cent of them are work shy. People in city have brought there complains to me about non-cooperative attitude of these workers,” said Navlai, justifying her action.

“Many projects are pending and people are angry because even for simple work they are been kept waiting by these officials”.

“Even corporators are unhappy, because not a single job has been done by workers told to them, there work is not at all satisfactory,” she said. However, the employees’ union in corporation is not happy with mayor’s remarks.

“She has issued show cause notice to us, because we were not in the office when she visited. But she was not seen other side, we work even after office hours many times,” said an employee.

Denying the mayor’s charges, union leader Gulab Inamdar said the mayor should not have taken this step of show cause notice. “We work to the best of our abilities. There is slackness on our part,” he said.

A section of employees said, “If any action is taken against us, we will oppose unitedly and work according to rules and no extra work will be done, said there workers.

Navlai told reporters that she is aware of the difficulties of the workers.
