CHANDIGARH, Dec 18: Bokaro Ispat Senior Secondary School, Bokaro won the first Central Board of Secondary Education North East Zone football championship, beating the local SD Public School 4-2 via tie-breaker after the two teams were tied goalless in normal time.
Translam Academy, Meerut got third position, edging past Bharti Vidya Bhavan, New Delhi 1-0.
Bokaro’s custodian Paritosh Kumar rose to the occasion saving two kicks in the shootout while one SD player shot wide off the target. There were not any such problems for the Bokaro lads as Chhote Lal, Brijeshwar, Inder Modi and Suresh converted their kicks. For the losers, only Satinder and Gurpreet were successful in their attempts.
Earlier, there wasn’t much to choose between the two teams as they struggled for a goal in the regulation period. A couple of wasted chances each only added to their frustration, before it all boiled down to the tie breaker.
