Australia suggested that some Indians were using the education route to migrate to that country and described this trend as a matter of concern.Australian High Commissioner John McCarthy noted that there was ‘too much linkage’ between Indian students going to educational institutions in that country with a view to subsequently emigrate.He prefaced his remarks by saying that education has become a new element of cooperation between Australia and India and it has become the second biggest destination for Indian students who aspire to study abroad after the US."I have two-three concerns. The plus is Indian students are going to Australia. The concern is all are not going to the best institutions of learning. Australia would like to see more going to the best institutions," he said.Another concern, he pointed out, was that there was ‘too much linkage’ between Indians going to Australian educational institutions with a view to subsequently emigrate.McCarthy was delivering a lecture on Australia's New Government and Asia at the Observer Research Foundation. He said the Australian Government attaches a huge amount of significance to its relationship with India and noted that Prime Minister Kevin Rudd is planning to visit India at an early stage.
