Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee gave no signs of resigning from the post even as his party CPI(M) is said to be planning to expel him from the organisation for his defiance.

“Nothing to say,” he replied when reporters asked him about the possibility of his resignation, a day after the government won the trust vote in the House.

Giving further indications that he may not be planning to quit, Chatterjee said “so far yes” to a question whether he would be going to Kuala Lumpur for attending a Commonwealth Parliamentary Union meeting.

Meanwhile, the CPI (M) politburo, which met in New Delhi, discussed the issue and the party may take a decision to expel him for his refusal to quit despite party’s directive to him to quit.

After the Left parties withdrew support to the UPA government, the CPI (M) left it to the Speaker to take a decision whether he should remain in the past. Later he sent messages to him that he should quit.
