A day after the controversial affidavit on Ram Setu affidavit was filed in the Supreme Court, Culture Minister Ambika Soni got a call from an angry Congress president Sonia Gandhi and was reprimanded by her.
Soni was in Japan on an official visit when she received a call from Gandhi on September 13 asking her what kind of an affidavit her Ministry had prepared, sources said.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh also made a call to her, but details of the conversation were not known.
In the affidavit on the Ram Setu, the government had claimed that there was no historical or scientific proof that Lord Ram existed.
The controversial affidavit was prepared by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), which is under the Culture Ministry.
The affidavit created a major uproar in the country, with some Congress members demanding Soni’s resignation and the Opposition launching an attack on the UPA. It was withdrawn two days later.
Soni had called on the Congress president shortly after returning from Japan and on Thursday met the Prime Minister, who is resting after undergoing surgery.
