The BJP’s Goa unit has dashed off a letter to the Chief Electoral officer complaining about alleged violation of the election code of conduct by the Congress in connection with a rally of party president Sonia Gandhi in the city today.

A similar communique has also been sent to Chief Election Commissioner J.M. Lyngdoh in New Delhi. The letter, signed by Goa Pradesh BJP vice-president Subhash Salkar stated that hundreds of buses and trucks were brought in from Maharashtra and Karnataka in connection with the rally.

‘‘We apprehend large-scale irregularities in the run-up to the elections and fear that the Congress could get people from outside the state and organise bogus voting and other forms of violation,’’ the letter read.

The BJP has requested Chief Electoral Officer Arvind Ray to inquire into the arrival of so many buses from neighbouring states and also the expenses incurred for the same. It has also dispatched photographs of the buses brought from outside. The party has urged Ray to appoint special election observers to check ‘‘such violation by the Congress.’’
