Soz, Soni to visit Majuli

Union Water Resources Minister Saifuddin Soz and Culture Minister Ambika Soni would lead a high-level delegation to Assam next week to review the action taken to check erosion of the Majuli island. Accompanied by senior officials of various departments, including the Central Water Commission, the ministers would hold consultations with the state Government and concerned authorities for three days from November 11. The visit comes in the backdrop of PM Manmohan Singh expressing concern over the erosion of the island in river Brahmaputra and directing that an action plan should be implemented on “highest priority” to tackle the problem.
