The Samajwadi Party has decided to gherao the MLAs of the ruling coalition on February 21 and persuade them to resign.‘‘The entire exercise will be non-violent,’’ claims party chief Mulayam Singh, adding, ‘‘Hum maarenge nahin, par maar bhi nahin khayenge (We will not attack anyone but won’t brook any atrocities against us).’’Talking to reporters in Lucknow today, Mulayam said both the Vajpayee and Mayawati governments have forgotten the principles of Gandhi, Nehru and Baba Saheb Ambedkar.‘‘Our battle is aimed at restoring these values and saving the country and not capturing power,’’ he said. The former Defence minister said it was surprising that in Uttar Pradesh even the Governor and the Speaker of the Vidhan Sabha have joined hands with the government in ‘‘rubbishing these values’’. Terming the UP coalition government a ‘‘political mafia’’, Mulayam said: ‘‘The sooner the government goes, better it will be for the people of the state.’’
