Rivalry between two high-profile lawyers affiliated to the Congress—Union Minister Kapil Sibal and MP Abhishek Manu Singhvi—has left senior leaders blushing, the latest episode being the flip-flop on Congress President Sonia Gandhi’s “merchants of death” remark. So much so that when Singhvi had to finally take Sibal’s line that Sonia had not named anybody, an upset Singhvi rejected even AICC Treasurer Motilal Vora’s plea on December 11 evening to come to the party headquarters to brief the press on the first phase of polling in Gujarat and on the Congress President’s reply to the Election Commission’s notice. A visibly embarrassed Vora told the scribes that they would have to go to the spokesperson’s residence if they wished to hear him. “What can I do? I am not the media cell chairperson. He says he can’t come here,” said Vora.
