NEW DELHI, July 24: Ashok Sharma, Assistant Director in the elite Special Protection Group (SPG), was today just another victim of the current crime wave in the Capital. He woke up this morning to find Rs 5,000 and jewellery worth more than Rs 1 lakh missing from an almirah in his Paschim Vihar house.
A case of theft has been registered. Sharma suspects that the theft happened between 2.30 a.m. and 4.30 a.m.. He is, however, unimpressed by the efforts of the police. “I reported the incident early in the morning. Yet, till now (8 p.m.) no one one has come and lifted the fingerprints,” said Sharma. “If this is how they treat senior officers, I can well understand the fate of the common man.” “Last night, my wife and I were up till around 2.30 a.m. as it was very hot.
We must have dozed off after some time,” said Sharma. “When my wife got up again about two hours later, she found the door of the other bedroom ajar, though no one was sleeping there.” Sharma said that when he went inside that bedroom, he found the locker of the almirah open. The family had taken out the jewellery from their bank locker a few days ago, to get some pieces repaired. The jewellery was supposed to be redeposited in the bank today.
