Spiritual trusts getting foreign funds under scanner in Kerala

The government plans to bring in a legislation to plug legal loopholes in the Trust rules often exploited by NGOs.

Activities of NGOs including spiritual trusts getting foreign funds would be examined, Kerala Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan told the State Assembly on Tuesday.

Replying to questions on recent run crackdown on self-styled godmen the minister said several complaints on ‘spiritual’ rackets run by them in different parts of the state had been received and inquiries were on into them.

The Government had also plans to bring in a unified legislation to plug legal loopholes in the Trust rules often exploited by NGOs and spiritual rackets.
