VADODARA, June 30: A rain-triggered cable fault sent more than 600 telephones out of order in the Adaniya Pool (Dandiya Bazaar) and Koyali Faliya (Fatehpura) areas, while power cuts were reported from some parts of the city on Tuesday, the second day of the monsoon showers. A minor cable fault had also been detected at Jawaharnagar, an official spokesman of the telecom department said, adding that the faults were likely to be corrected by Wednesday.
While air traffic was normal on Tuesday, a couple of trains including the Sayajinagari and the Avadh Express, were said to running behind their respective schedules.
Several of the low-laying areas of the city, particularly in the older part, went under water after the showers on Monday and Tuesday. Complaints also came in from the airport, as the parking space was partially water-logged.
The city received scanty and brief showers till 8.30 a.m. on Tuesday, with Kwant taluka of the district recording the maximum of 6 mm of rainfall in the 24 hours ending 8.30 a.m. As much as 2.6 mm rain was, however, recorded in some parts of the city later in the evening, weather officials said, adding that heavy rainfall had been forecast for all parts of Gujarat in the next 48 hours. No untoward incident was reported from any part of the district, flood control room and the fire brigade officials said.
