The Australians proved to be too formidable for Ritwik Bhattacharya and Sourav Ghosal as the Indians found the going too tough against Byron Davis and Cameron White, losing 4-9, 2-9, 9-8, 7-9 in the final of the second World Doubles Squash championship at the ICL-TNSRA courts here on Friday.

Davis and White completed an Aussie sweep, with their women’s and mixed doubles teams pocketing their respective titles earlier.

Up against an experienced and crafty Davis, the Indian pair wilted in the first two games, essayed an entertaining mini-coup in the third and found that their luck had deserted them in the fourth game as stroke-calls and shots failed to go their way.

White and Davis were surprise finalists really, having shocked their top-seeded compatriots Palmer and Ricketts in the semis. But for the hosts, who themselves had played incredible squash for the last four days to reach this far, even the unheralded duo turned out to be quite a handful.
