CHANDIGARH, Oct 1: A Rajpura resident, stabbed in the stomach and left to die outside the Dev Samaj College for Women in Sector 21 on Wednesday night, succumbed to his injuries at the PGI early this morning.

Though the police are clueless about the motives, preliminary investigations reveal that a drunken brawl may have led to the stabbing.

According to the police, the deceased, Baljit Singh, working as a lathe operator in Sector 21 a few years ago, was admitted to the PGI at about 12.30 a.m. after his body, with blood oozing, was found by the roadside. He was declared dead at about 7 this morning.

Reported to be a "drunkard, drug addict and a financial wreck," he had left for Kullu, but had landed in the City, following a "fight with his family". His contacts here were being questioned by the police.

Sources say that 45-year-old Baljit Singh was last seen with a bed and a dressing table loaded on a rickshaw in Rajpura at about 6 p.m. on Wednesday evening. He had been quarrelling with the neighbours and family since morning, following which his father told him to leave the house, add sources.

The police have registered a case of murder under Section 302 Indian Penal Code and further investigations are on. No arrests have been made till late in the evening, the police sources said.
