
NEW DELHI, December 20: The sports department of the Delhi Government plans to set up five more swimming pools in various parts of the Capital. There is also a plan to add a standard swimming pool within the campus of the Chhattarsal Stadium here.
Satpal, Deputy Director (Sports), Directorate of Education (Delhi), disclosed here that 144 training centres were presently in operation in the Capital and that five venues have been identified for setting up swimming pools. These will be at Saraswati Vihar, Janakpuri C Block, Bawana, Hari Nagar L Block and Shakurpur. All these five pools will be of 25 metres while the one planned at Chhattarsal Stadium will be of the 50m standard size. The Delhi Administration has already acquired additional land from DDA for the purpose.
Satpal also disclosed that the sports cell had a proposal to provide special training to six young swimmers who have performed exceptionally well in the state-run competitions this year.
