NEW DELHI, July 27: State Bank of India recovered from an early goal deficit to beat Railway Board 4-2 in the Delhi State Institutional Hockey League at Shivaji Stadium here on Monday.
Hardly had the two teams settled down when Railway Board snatched the lead against the run of play. Purshottam Das put the Railway Board ahead in the fifth minute. State Bank’s outside-right Deepak Bhalla scored the equaliser soon after and then Sukhdev Singh put the State Bank of India team ahead for the first time with a goal in the 25th minute as the teams changed over, with SBI leading 2-1.
Coming back with fresh ideas, Railway Board put pressure on the SBI defence and came with the equaliser in the 34th minute (four minutes into the second half).
Jumesh Changra was the goal-scorer. Sudhir Sharma and centre-half Jaswinder Singh added a goal each for SBI to complete the tally.
In another match, Delhi Audit proved too strong for BEL whom they thrashed 7-0 after leading 3-0 at the interval.
Inside-right Amit Sharma (3), centre-forward Amit Bakshi (2) and Sanjay Sharma (2) were the goal-getters for the winners who completely dominated the proceedings.
In the third match of the day, Dogra Regiment failed to turn up for their game against Delhi Police, who were awarded full points.
