State calls bidders for disposing 746 gold rings

CHENNAI, June 20: Tenders have been called for the sale of 746 gold rings purchased under the scheme for the girl child, introduced by former TN CM, J Jayalalitha. According to the scheme, a gold ring weighing 1 gm will be presented to the poor families, for the child’s first birthday. So far, 20,000 rings have been given and since the remaining 746 rings are not to be used as the scheme was modified recently. Thus, the TN government decided to dispose of the rings and recover the costs.
