
VADODARA, Jan 4: The State government has chalked out a Rs 200-crore plan to upgrade medical facilities and equip the 39 major health centres, 23 general hospitals and nine medical colleges during the current year, according to State Health Minister Ashok Bhatt.
He was addressing a gathering at the inauguration of a free polio correction surgical camp at the Mayo Hospital here on Monday.
The government was also trying to eradicate polio from the State within the next decade, Bhatt said, before going on to enumerate the developments in the health scenario over the past months.
State Civil Supplies Minister Jaspal Singh, who was a special guest on the occasion, exhorted various social fora to help the government strengthen the health sector infrastructure, especially in the remote areas of the State.
Inaugurated by former MP Ranjitsinh Gaekwad, the camp saw a team of 20 doctors led by Dr Adinarayan Rao and Dr B Raju of the Polio Surgical Foundation, Vishakhapatnam operate upon more than 150 polio patients from different parts of the State.
The camp was jointly organised by the Lions’ Club of Enfield (England), the Lions Club of Stadium (Vadodara), the Leo Club of Vadodara and Mayo Medicare and Research Institute. Present on the occasion was Mayor Bharati Vyas, club district governor Ramesh Prajapati, hospital managing trustee Dwipa Mankodi and the principal donor, UK-based Vijay Patel.
