IMPHAL: One man was killed and two policemen were injured in Manipur’s Bishenpur district during an attack by armed activists on the deputy commissioner’s bungalow on Tuesday, official sources said. About 20 activists attacked the DC’s bungalow and killed a civilian and two policemen. They overpowered the securitymen and looted their arms during the incident, when fire was exchanged by both sides.

SRINAGAR: Four persons, including three mercenaries, were killed in two separate incidents while a militant was arrested and two others surrendered in the Kashmir valley since Tuesday evening The gunfight broke out in the village following a siege laid by the army to flush out militants. An AK assault rifle and some ammunition were recovered from the slain militants. A bullet-riddled body was recovered from Tangpora-Batmaloo in central Srinagar on Wednesday.

AGARTALA: Responding to an appeal by Tripura Chief Minister Dasaratha Deb, the retrenched employees of Agartala Municipality called off their 226-day-old relay-hunger strike on Tuesday. More than 300 ex-employees were demanding their re-appointment in the municipality or government departments. They met Urban Development Minister Bimal Sinha and informed him of their decision.
