Station in-charge suspended over Assam firing

The Assam government has placed under suspension SN Medhi, the officer in-charge of Moirabari police station in Morigaon district, over an incident of firing that left three persons including two minors dead and several injured on Saturday.

The state government has also appointed a high-level inquiry committee, to be headed by an additional chief secretary, to probe the firing incident.

Three persons including two boys were killed when police opened fire as a mob attacked the Moirabari police station and set it on

fire following the arrest of some youth allegedly involved in a motorcycle accident.

Curfew was relaxed for eight hours today in the suburban town, 28 km north of Morigaon.
