Strauss to step in for injured Vaughan

Michal Vaughan will miss England’s first Test against the West Indies starting at Lord’s on Thursday after failing to recover in time from a broken finger.

Fellow top-order batsman Andrew Strauss was appointed temporary captain when the squad was announced here today. Sussex wicket-keeper Matt Prior is set to make his Test debut after being included in a 12-man squad.

England hope to have Vaughan back in the team for the second Test wich starts at his Headingley home ground on May 25. Prior has seen off competition from one-day international keeper Paul Nixon and former England Test gloveman James Foster to replace Chris Read.
