NAGPUR, Oct 10: The recent court strictures on deaths in police encounters in Maharashtra might, “make the work of the state police difficult”, Chief Minister Manohar Joshi said here today.

Asked to comment on the murder of businessmen Bharat Shah in Mumbai on Thursday and the attack on a building contractor, M G Patel, yesterday, Joshi told reporters there were indications that gang wars were starting again.

“These killings in public places should also serve as a warning to those who take the help of the underworld for settling their business disputes”, he said.

Referring to the `bhagwa saptah’ (saffron week) being celebrated after a gap of 12 years, Joshi said the objective was to remind Shiv Sainiks that social work was more important than politics. The party was launching an enrolment drive during the week, he said.

and setting up Shiv Sena units wherever they were not formed yet, Joshi said, adding he received an overwhelming response during his tour of Gadchiroli, Chandrapur and Wardhadistricts yesterday and today.
