Voicing concern over a ‘‘marked increase’’ in the Muslim population, RSS chief K.S. Sudarshan today blamed it all on family planning for upsetting the demography of India.
‘‘Only the Hindus are victims of family planning. Muslims do not practise it. The Roman Catholics don’t believe in the very concept of family planning,’’ said Sudarshan, who was here to inaugurate a special issue of the RSS magazine, Swastika.
‘‘Hindus should have at least three, if not more, children to compensate for the changing demography,’’ the RSS chief advised, adding that the changing demography of the nation was a cause of serious concern.
‘‘In Assam, 10 of the 18 districts now have a Muslim majority population. It is a situation that concerns me and the RSS,’’ he said.
The RSS chief also alleged that madarsas, which were ‘‘churning out Talibani fundamentalists’’, were mushrooming in the border areas.
‘‘Our Hindu culture is such that if a person becomes a Hindu fundamentalist, it broadens his horizons. When a man becomes a Muslim fundamentalist or a Christian fundamentalist, the opposite happens,’’ he added.
Commenting on the newly-elected Pope, Sudarshan said, ‘‘Cardinal Ratzinger had said that those who are thinking of themselves as equal to the Catholic Church are crossing all limits of tolerance. If the head of a religion has this kind of a mentality, then imagine how his followers will be.’’
Moving over to the issue of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose’s disappearance, Sudarshan said the Mukherjee Commission should visit Russia to find out the truth. ‘‘Netaji did not die in any plane crash in 1945 but was alive till 1985,’’ he claimed.
Sudarshan also alleged that stories of Netaji’s death were circulated by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, whose political career would have been in jeopardy if Bose returned to India.
