A non-resident Gujarati settled in Indonesia recently created a big dilemma for members of the Congress Screening Committee entrusted with screening candidates for the Gujarat Assembly elections. The NRG sought a Congress ticket to contest the Assembly election. In support of his credentials, he submitted a copy of a letter written by Ahmad Patel, political secretary to Congress president Sonia Gandhi, that recommended accommodation for the NRG at the Western Court Hostel where suites are reserved for guests of Members of Parliament. Last seen, the NRG was knocking on every door at the Congress headquarters with copies of Patel’s letter.
