SHIMLA, Dec 15: Former Union Minister and Chairman of HP Employment Generation and Resources Mobilisation Committee Sukhram today met Union Communication Minister Jagmohan in New Delhi and asked him to restore the status of a tenure station for Himachal Pradesh.
Sukhram informed the Union minister that in view of the extreme climatic conditions and topography of Himachal Pradesh, no official of the communication ministry joined duty on being transferred there. He said some posts were lying vacant even against the sanctioned staff. He told him that the position had become so acute in the state, that out of 246 All India cadre sanctioned posts, 124 posts of DE and SDE, Chief Account Officers etc, had been lying vacant after Himachal Pradesh was declared a non-tenure station. He said there were 61 vacancies of drivers out of 114 posts.
Sukhram recalled that a task force was constituted for evolving a methodology suiting hill conditions for installation of telephone lines in the far flung and most inaccessible areas of the state.
This task force did a commendable job but it could not complete the assigned job as it was withdrawn. He requested the communications minister to revive the task force.
