Sunny Sidhu led at the end of the first leg of the Maruti-Suzuki Desert Storm 2004 rally. Sidhu was on 19-06 penalty points as compared to defending champion Anil Wadia. The latter was relegated to the fourth spot. Showing excellent skill and better understanding of the treacherous route, Sidhu, on his Maruti Gypsy, finished the 24.69km of the 274.44km first-leg. Aniruddha Jain (21.21) and Amarpreet Ahluwalia (21.24) were second and third.
