MUMBAI, SEPT 26: Supriya Balsekar played her best match in her short career to reach the under-19 girls’ final with a thrilling 10-8, 8-10, 8-10, 10-9, 9-7 win over arch-rival Rhea Bhandare in the first leg of the four-leg Air-India SRAM Junior Squash Tournament at the Otters Club, Bandra on Sunday. Balsekar will take on Deepali Anwekar who routed Priyanka Yadav 9-2, 9-0, 9-3.

Alok, Shruti made to toil

Alok Shah (Don Bosco, Matunga) and Shruti Bansal (St Anne’s) were made to toil in their respective categories before advancing to the fourth round of the MSSA-Colgate Inter-School table Tennis Tournament in progress at the University Pavilion.

In third round matches played today, Alok rallied to overcome Aditya Khanjode (Swami Vivek) 20-22 21-14 21-10 in the boys under-14 category while Shruti clawed back to down Vinita Merchant (JB Petit) 20-22 21-9 21-19 in the girs under under-10section.

Amay extends Akhil

Akhil Kamlakar of Lakhandwala Foundation was the only player to find tough opposition in the MSSA-Colgate Inter School Badminton finals held at the Cricket Club of India (CCI) courts here on Sunday. Kalamkar was stretched to the distance by St Mary’s Amay Merchant 15-8 14-17 15-7 for the boys under-10 crown. All other winners had a relatively smooth sailing.

Jamnabai Narsee, Juhu and IES VN Sule Guruji, Dadar claimed the team honours in the boys and girls section respectively.

Don Bosco win

Don Bosco Youth Centre A’ bt Wenden B’ by 2-0 in the MDFA Chattrapati Shivaji Trophy Division I-B football league at the St Xavier’s ground, Parel, today. Johnny Dias took a powerful shot from a free-kick which beat Wenden ‘keeper Vinod Pillai hands down in the seventh minute (1-0).

In the second-half the Wenden forwards tried had but they could not beatDBYC ‘keeper S. Sawant. The second goal came in the 40th minute and was scored by Suresh Yella from close range.

Mohile nets brace

Prakash Mohile’s fine brace saw Air-India register their fourth successive victory in the Our Lady of Egypt Church Sports Committee-organised 12-team Kalina football league at the St Mary’s school ground, Kalina. Air-India beat Big Village Bhat (Green) 3-0. Prem Malhotra netted the other goal.

Nohar Nath triumphs

Nohar Nath shot a four-over 74 (nett 68) to win the Bombay Presidency Golf Club selection trials to pick the team for the Johnnie Walker Inter-Club golf tournament. Nohar, who finished five strokes clear of brother Shivas Nath (gross 79, nett 72) will represent BPGC in the 0-9 handicap category.

The other members of the BPGC team are Rani Goenka (gross 79, nett 66) in the 10-17 handicap section and HK Sippy (gross 85, nett 66) in the 19 to 24 handicap category.
