Art Silk assn stir ends
The 18-day long agitation launched by the Ved Road-Katargam Art Silk Association, over the issue of excess electricity bill levied by the Surat Electricity Company, ended on Thursday after it signed a five-point compromise formula in the presence of state minister for Law and justice Hemantbhai Chapatwala.

The association was agitating on the issue of installation of new electric meters in the wake of damages by flood waters, saying they were being slapped with excess electricity bills. The formula includes: removal of electronic meters and average electricity bill.

Date extended
The Regional Transport Office has extended the date for concession in penalty for vehicle tax, composite tax and surcharge till February 28. Only one per cent penalty will be recovered from tax payers who pay the tax before the prescribed date, RTO K M Patel said in a release.

Fishing advice
The deputy director of Surat district Fisheries department said on Thursday that according to satellite data available from the Oceanography division in Hyderabad, fishermen will be able to get a good catch in the waters of the Arabian Sea off South Gujarat until Saturday. According to the director, maximum fishes can be caught between 17 and 22 kms off the coast and at a depth of about 10 metres below the water level. The best catch can be made in the south-east direction off Surat coast, west off the Navsari coast, south off the Valsad coast, south-west off the Daman coastline and in a direction north-west off the Maroli coast.

Lecture
The Centre for Social Studies has organised the 12th I P Desai Memorial Lecture at its premises at 3 pm on Monday. Prof D L Sheth of Delhi-based Centre for the Study of Developing Societies will speak on Knowledge, Power and Action: Challenges Facing the Grassroots Movements for Alternative Development’ as part of the lecture.
