SMC agenda declared
The Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) has prepared a Local Agenda 2010′ to achieve the goal of Surat the Future of India’. In response to a letter from Karl Hausker, Project Director, Centre for Strategic and International Studies, Washington DC, who had asked Surat mayor to send her action plan for the city, Savita Sharda has reiterated: our commitment for Surat is to provide 100 per cent drinking water to all by 2000.

Solid waste management, drainage for cleanliness, wide roads with flyover and bridges for easy flow of traffic, water treatment plants, planting more trees for control of air pollution will be achieved by 2008. We have planned to create healthy environment in the slums by providing paved lanes, water tap, pay and use toilet blocks and street lights. Surat mayor’s commitment will be published in a magazine which will also include the proceedings and summary of the just concluded Mayors’ Asia Pacific Environment Summit’, held in Honolulu.

Credit card
The Surat People’s Co-operative Bank Limited has decided to launch a credit card for its customers. The card Vasudhara ‘ will be formally introduced at a function on Thursday at 11.30, Ist floor, Kalyan Hotel Complex, Nanpura.

Meeting

A meeting will be held at PSM department of New Civil Hospital on March 20, at 3 pm to chalk out a programme to prevent the sickle cell disease prevalent in tribal areas. The meeting, to be presided over by the Health Minister Ashok Bhatt, will be attended by Forest and Environment Minister Kanji Patel.

Fair price shops
Gujarat State Civil Supply Corporation has asked fair price shops to lift their quota of essential commodities before March 24. Godowns will be close from March 25 and 31 for physical inspection of stocks.
