
Water pipeline to increase supply to city
The Surat Municipal Corporation is expected to complete laying the pipeline between the Katargam water works and Khatodara water distribution centre by June 18. This will increase the water supply to the old city areas, Athwa, Umra, Piplod , Udhna ,Pandesara, Bhestan and Rander. This pipeline will carry 77 lakh liter per hour.
Protest planned
The All-Gujarat Save Education Committee has organised a programme on Wednesday to protest against the state government’s new education policy (grant-in-aid). Students, parents and educationists will gather in front of the District Education Office from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. A signature campaign will also be carried out simultaneously.
Rally in Dangs
The Dangs Forest Department took out a cycle rally and organised a public meeting on the occasion of World Environment Day recently at Ahwa, the district headquarters. School and college students and forest employees from various ranges took part in the rally.
Liquor seized
The Prohibition department, in four separate raids in villages of the Palsana and Bardoli talukas on Sunday, seized 1167 bottles of Indian Made Foreign Liquor and 90 liters of country liqour worth Rs 60,000, a department release said. Legal proceedings have been initiated against six people, who have been booked under sections of the Prohibition Act.
Garden open
The Tapi Vihar Udyaan, developed at an estimated cost of Rs 1 lakh in the Mandvi taluka of Surat district, was thrown open to the public by tribal development minister Mangubhai Patel. MLA Rajnikant Rajwadi, chairman of tribal development corporation Ramanbhai Patkar, corporation director Lalubhai Dodia and taluka panchayat president Panachanbhai Gamit were present on the occasion.
