NEW DELHI, July 19: Reacting strongly to the DMK's support to Laloo Prasad Yadav's Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), CPM general secretary Harkishan Singh Surjeet has said DMK chief M Karunanidhi's stand can only ``damage the prestige of the United Front''.``There seem to be two views on the issue of corruption within the United Front. One section (meaning the DMK) holds the view that entry into the Front should be permitted even if the concerned person or party had played a disruptive role because thay have some numbers. Such a view can only damage the prestige of the UF,'' Surjeet wrote in a front page article of the CPM's organ People's Democracy released today. The long article is entirely devoted to answering Karunanidhi's criticism of the CPM, and other Left parties on Laloo's continuance as Bihar Chief Minister and the admission of his outfit into the UF. It is the first time that the CPM has gone public with its views on the DMK which it has privately conveyed to the UF leadership.Surjeet said Karunanidhi's stance can only help the BJP in Bihar, an eventuality which would defeat the very purpose of the UF's creation. In other places too in his article, Surjeet refers to Karunanidhi's soft corner for the BJP as juxtaposed with his criticism of the Left. ``The DMK preceived things differently. Thiru Karunanidhi laid the whole blame at the door of the Left parties for aggravating the situation. That the CPM has been stung by the DMK's opposition to its plans is clear from the tone of Surjeet's piece. The CPM general secretary's write-up practically blames Karunanidhi for an irresponsible approach which could lead to the UF's destruction as a whole.
