Eight months after the original was stolen, Sweden on Wednesday presented replicas of Rabindranath Tagore’s Nobel medals to be placed in Shantiniketan. Two replicas, one in gold and another in bronze, were presented by Swedish Secretary of State Hans Dahlgren to K. Natwar Singh. Vishwa Bharati had requested the Swedish govt for the replicas after the medals could not be traced. Dahlgren said it was a ‘great honour’ for Sweden to give the medals.
