The resignation of Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf is happy news for Kashmiris, Hurriyat hawk Syed Ali Shah Geelani said in Srinagar on Monday.

Reacting to the latest development in Pakistan, he said during the past eight years, Musharraf had “sacrificed the Kashmir cause for the sake of his own survival”.

“He has caused immense harm to Islam. He has even instigated the Pakistani army against his own people,” the chairman of the hardline faction of the Hurriyat said.

“I am breaking a good news. Musharraf has resigned,” he told the gathering at the Tourist Reception Centre here.

The separatist leader said “the people of Pakistan has rejected him. He has been rejected even by women and children of his country.”
