DECember 5: Team Shibani Framroze caused the only upset as Team Farokh Tarapore qualified for the second elimination round in the J24 Class National Match Racing Sailing championships off the Mumbai Harbour today.Team Framroze (Crew: Geeta Kumana, Suneeta Masani, Monaz Noble) beat the team of Gautam Dutta (crew: Naresh Yadav, JD Rami, Varun Idnani) in their first race in Group B but lost to the star-studded team skippered by Ashim Mongia (crew: R Mahesh, Nitin Mongia, Keith Debrass).

Team Mongia have won both their races in their group and need to win the final one to be held tomorrow. Team Framroze and Team Dutta have won one race and lost one while Team Rohit Tolani (crew: Rohit Pardesi, Rajiv Parab and Arun Anant) have lost both their races and probably out of contention for the second elimination round.

From A group, Team Tarapore (crew: Daurius Shroff, Parimal Nagjee, Sonke Stein) have won all their three races and have qualified for the second round while Team Sagar Kudale (crew: Nilay Patil, Mandeep, Pradip Patade) lost to Team Tarapore but won the other two. Team Arjun Pradipak (crew: Anirudh Vijay Kumar, Aswin Nandan Singh, Akshai Bhaua) have beaten team Anshu Puri (crew: Robin Chakravarty, R Tyayyil, A Saxena) but have lost the other two races. Team Puri lost all the three and were eliminated.

There are eight teams divided into two groups and match racing involves one team against another. The course for the championships is a beat, a loop and run. J24 is a new boat and it is so called because the length measures upto 24 feet.

RESULTS: Group A: Farokh Tarapore (won 3, lost 0); Sagar Kudale 2-1, Arjun Pradipak 1-2, Anshu Puri 0-3.

Group B: Ashim Mongia 2-0, Gautam Datta 1-1, Shibani Framroze 1-1, Rohit Tolani 0-2.
