The biggest software maker Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) on Wednesday signed up with the Department of Company Affairs (DCA) to create a paperless registry of companies by April 2006.

TCS Chief S. Ramadorai said the Rs 341 crore-revenue project would be handled by TCS-CMC, while its development partners include VSNL, Adobe, Microsoft, Tata Power and a host of other software, infrastructure and communication companies.

‘‘The paperless office will make financial information on hundreds of thousands of companies available to the general public at no cost for three years,’’ said Company Affairs Minister Prem Chand Gupta, who awarded TCS the project after it won the bid.

‘‘The project is one way for TCS to be part of the government’s initiatives to grow local use of IT. It will also make use of our skills that will be beneficial to the area,’’ Ramadorai said.
