On Tuesday, Bihar’s capital witnessed one of the worst agitations of recent years when hundreds of teachers of unaided educational institutes broke police barricades and marched up to the main entrance of the state Assembly and clashed with the police.

The policemen were taken off-guard when angry teachers broke the iron barricade and clashed with them. They were chased away when they reached the gates of the Assembly. The teachers’ union claimed more than 100 teachers were injured.

Teachers and other staff working in the unaided institutes have been demanding regularisation of their services for a long time. The state Government recently announced the end of the unaided education system, and extension of performance-based grants to these institutes.
