
PATIALA, Feb 18: Over 50 teachers of the government-aided privately managed schools of Patiala district sat on a fast before the office of the Deputy Commissioner today. Teachers say the fast will continue till their demands are accepted. They also raised slogans against the state government.
Later, teachers of all the private schools gathered and participated in a rally. They threatened not to cooperate in the matric and Plus Two examinations if the government did not accept their demands.
Khanna: Traffic on the busy G.T. Road was blocked for about half-an-hour by angry teachers from aided schools, demonstrating against the alleged manhandling of female teachers by the police.The trouble arose when teachers of aided schools took out a rally carrying an effigy of the state Finance Minister. As soon as they reached Samrala Chowk, police swung into action and seized the effigy to prevent teachers from burning it. Teachers alleged that the police manhandled the female teachers and assaulted them. The police, however, denied the charges.
Moga: Hundreds of aided school teachers of the district took out a "funeral" of the Punjab government on the fifth day of their agitation today. The procession, which started from Mathurdass Senior Secondary School after a rally, passed through the main streets of the town, before culminating on the G.T. Road, where teachers burnt an effigy of the "government" and blocked traffic for about two hours.
Nawanshahr: School teachers and other employees of aided schools of the district started a chain hunger strike today in front of the DC’s office here. Teachers said the hunger strike would continue till February 21, after which the agitation will continue as per the programme that will be chalked out by the state executive on February 22, if their demands including auto-parity and implementation of the 4th Pay Commission recommendations were not accepted.
