Rain interruptions in the World Cup match between Bangladesh and Bermuda had ramifications extending to India. The Group B match started late on Sunday because of rain and was interrupted even after play began as the showers poured down.

Bangladesh only need one point from this match to advance to the Super 8s from a group that contained two former world champions — Sri Lanka and India.

Bangladesh’s victory, tie or even a washed out game will knock India out of the tournament.

Showers arrived soon after Bangladesh skipper Habibul Bashar won the toss and asked debutants Bermuda to bat first.

When play finally began, the match was reduced to 41 overs per side. After a third delay, it was reduced to 30 overs each.

Bermuda were 45 for four in 15.1 overs when rain forced the stop-start match against Bangladesh to be halted for a third time.

Bermuda have had two big losses to India and Sri Lanka and are unlikely to pull an upset over Bangladesh.
