NAGPUR, JUNE 29: In a bizarre incident, a 36-year-old widow was killed by her teenaged son at village Taamaswadi on Monday. The son committed the crime as his mother often returned home from work in an inebriated condition and harassed. The police have since arrested the son for murder.
According to the police, the victim, Vimal Gopalrao Lakadkar, was staying with her three sons. She had got a jo with the Western Coalfields Limited at Silwera on humanitarian grounds after her husband’s death. Unfortunately during this period, she took to drinking and would often return home in an inebriated
The boy had had it enough when Vimal as usual returned home after drinks and picked up a quarrel with him on Monday. The woman started beating her son which compelled him to retaliate. Later, Sanjay used his mother’s saree to strangulate her, police informed.
Initially, a case of natural death was registered by the Parsheoni police when they were told that the woman had died of excessive drinking. Post-mortem findings, however, revealed a different story and confirmed that Vimal had died of asphyxia. The ensuing probe led to the arrest of Sanjay. Further investigations were on.
