MUMBAI, March 14: Tejaswi Shetty of Juhu Vile Parle Club broke two of the four meet records on the opening day of the two-day 16th Otters Club Open Swim Championship, here today.

She clocked 1:20.00 in the 100 metres breaststroke for women to eclipse Manushi Jain’s 1996 mark of 1:23.43. Her record-breaking performance followed the first of three successes in the 200 metre freestyle for women.

Under-15 Riyad Palia of Otters Club scored a quadruple, winning the 100 metres butterfly, 100 metres breaststroke, the 200 metres medley and was in the Otters Club team which scored in the 4×50 m free-style relay.

Sidhant Nagrani, of Otters, registered a quadruple, triumphing in the 200 metres free-style and 100 metres backstroke for men and being a member of both the men’s and under-15 boys’ relay teams.

CCI womenin title round

CCI `A’ made the women’s team finals of the Ullal Cup Inter-Club badminton tournament at the Bombay Gymkhana with a 2-0 win over the hosts, today.In the quarter-finals of thetournament sponsored by SunGrace Mafatlal, CCI `A’ clinched the first doubles and singles to take their place in the title round. Neha Ganguli pairing with Shilpa Shah beat Tara Mahadevan and Anagha Rajadhyaksha 15-0, 15-2 while Nirmala Kotnis beat Simone Narsi 11-0, 11-0 in the singles encounter.

Men’s (QFs): PJ Hindu Gymkhana `A’ bt Bandra Gymkhana 3-0 Juhu Vile Parle Gymkhana bt CRI (Dadar) 3-1; CCI `A’ bt Bombay Gymkhana `A’ 3-0; Khar Gymkhana bt MIG Bandra 3-2. Women’s (SFs): CCI `A’ bt Bombay Gymkhana 2-0; QFs: MIG (Bandra) bt BEST 2-0.

Rizvi SC down MLWB

Rizvi SC scored a convincing victory over MLWB, Bandra in Bro Paulus football tournament played at the St Francis D’Assisi Ground, Borivli. Sammer Jadda drew first blood for Rizvi in 21st minute. Lucian D’Souza increased the lead after two minutes of the breather. Prabhakar Acharya scored a consolation goal for MLWB in the 35th minute from a penalty. In another match, IC Colts got past Golden Stars SC 3-1 via thetie-breaker. Both teams failed to score in the regulation time. Neil Viranda, Roque Periera and Salvin Peres converted their spot-kicks for IC Colts while only Nazareth D’Souza could score for Golden Star.

Thadomal in final

THADOMAL SHAHNI drubbed Sabbo Sidik 4-0 to enter the final of Inter-Engineering College football tournament. Sameer Gandhe and Aswin Nando scored a brace each for Thadomal. Amit Lopez scored the golden goal for CRCE against Shah Engineering College in the other semi-final.

Fr Agnel score

FR Agnel (Vashi) scored a comfortable 3-0 victory over Rumania in the quarter-finals of the Don Bosco Challenge Cup football tournament, organised by Don Bosco Youth Centre, at the St Joseph’s Techinical Ground, Kurla, today.Harish Hoke gave Fr Agnel the lead by neatly placing the ball home. Ian Antao consolidated Fr Agnel’s position. Ian beat two defenders before placing in the goal, following a pass from Charlie Luis.

The third Fr Agnel goal was scored by Eusebio Mascarenhas, whofound the target with a top-of-the-box effort.Rumania were awarded a penalty after Adrian brought down. Chirag Hussein shot was saved.
