The VHP will contact all Lok Sabha members from May 5 to 9 to seek their support for a legislation to facilitate the construction of the Ram temple at Ayodhya.
VHP national secretary Surendra Jain said they would approach everyone, including Congress president Sonia Gandhi, on this count. He disclosed that previous attempts by VHP leaders to seek an appointment with her had failed. She had deputed senior Congress leader Arjun Singh to meet them, who also kept putting them off.
He said those who refused to extend their support to the temple would be exposed in their constituencies through public meetings. The VHP would ensure they were defeated in the coming LS polls.
When asked about the disapproval of the trishul-diksha programme by Deputy PM L.K. Advani, the VHP leader said their purpose was ‘‘not to please him’’. He said: ‘‘Our programme is not determined by who is happy with what we do.’’ The trishul-diksha campaign would continue as scheduled, he added.
