AHMEDABAD, FEBRUARY 9: The pull-out of maestro Sachin Tendulkar from the four-day Challenger Trophy cricket tournament, commencing here tomorrow, evoked a strong reaction from Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) president, Narahari Amin on Wednesday.

Hitting out at the decision of the India captain to skip the tournament citing the need for rest after returning from the gruelling tour of Australia, Amin said there was enough time for the ace batsman to take time off from the game before and after the tournament and prior to the first Test against South Africa.

“He had eight to nine days’ time to rest before the beginning of the tournament and the same period was also available after the event and prior to the Test series against South Africa (commencing on February 24),” Amin told PTI.

He also slammed the cricket board for allowing Tendulkar to take time off after announcing that he would lead the India Seniors team in the day-night tournament.

“The up and coming players have missed a great chance to play against him. This should not have been allowed to happen, however great a player he may be,” Amin said.

“I tried to talk to board secretary Jaywant Lele on this matter but he has gone to Singapore to attend an ICC meeting. I will rake up the issue when he comes here during the latter part of the tournament.”
