Tenure up for ICSSR secy

The HRD Ministry today decided to transfer Bhaskar Chatterjee, member secretary of Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR). Chatterjee belongs to the Orissa IAS cadre and has earlier headed the Ministry’s National Literacy Mission before moving over to the crucial member secretary’s job at ICSSR in 2001.

Ministry sources said Chatterjee’s transfer is not part of the ‘‘detoxification’’ drive; his tenure in Delhi was long over. He would have gone back to his parent cadre in normal course. Nevertheless, the ministry did not say where he was being shifted or if he was going over

to Orissa for a posting. Chatterjee had kept the ICSSR out of controversy over the past few years though he had come too close to the powers that be during the Joshi regime.
